SMETA –
The audit global retailers actually check

SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) is the most common ethical-trade audit in the world — required by Walmart, Tesco, Amazon, Unilever and hundreds more retailers. SMETA isn't a certification but an audit report that lets data be shared between suppliers and retailers on the Sedex platform. CBE has been guiding Israeli suppliers to SMETA audits for 30 years — with 100% success.

CBE specializes in guiding and certifying organizations for the SMETA standard, tailoring the management system to the organization's needs.

What is SMETA?

One audit — that serves every global client

SMETA is an audit methodology developed by Sedex — an ethical supply-chain management platform. The audit is performed by accredited audit bodies (like Bureau Veritas, SGS) and its result is published on the Sedex platform.

SMETA includes 2 pillars (Labor & Health/Safety — mandatory) and 4 pillars (also Environment & Business Ethics — recommended). Many retailers require 4-Pillar SMETA.

CBE doesn't just guide you to SMETA — we build an ESG framework that combines SMETA, SA8000 and ISO 45001, because large suppliers need all three.

Labor Practices

Employment conditions, wages, working hours, child labor and forced labor.

Health & Safety

A safe work environment, protective equipment, training and emergency procedures.

Environment (4P)

Environmental management, waste, energy consumption and emissions.

Business Ethics (4P)

Bribery, anti-corruption, conflicts of interest and prohibited business.

Who needs SMETA?

Food & beverage suppliers

Amazon Fresh, Tesco, Walmart require SMETA from every food supplier. A 4P audit.
